Young People Are Our Today!

(23-08-2017)

As a young person, I have been expressing this constantly for a long time. The future of our country will be determined by hard-working, visionary, reformist and sensitive young masses. These days, we often hear the word YOUNG YOUNG YOUNG on everyone’s lips. So how much importance is given to young people in our country? Compared to the past, I am very happy that the word YOUNG is being brought up on every platform, but it is definitely not enough. With all due respect, young people are still ignored. Young people are ignored in many issues, and unfortunately, things are getting worse with the events taking place in society.

Habitat Association shared the report of its research titled “The Well-Being of Young People in Turkey”, which it conducted last May. I regret to give you some examples from the report.

When we look at the situation of young people in terms of politics and civil society;

  • 78.2% of young people see participation in politics as just voting in elections.
  • The rate of young people taking part in active politics is only 3.9%.
  • Unfortunately, the rate of young people who are not members of any non-governmental organization, sports club or political party is 92.3%.

The voting age has been reduced to 18. Frankly, I was happy to think that young people’s sense of self-confidence would at least increase. Of course, there are also those who oppose this situation. When we look at the figures above, I leave it to you to comment on how the young population, 78.2% of whom see participation in politics as just voting in elections, will become politicians. Of course, the young population, 3.9% of whom are actively involved in politics, is different. Even though this group is almost non-existent, they have a lot of work to do.

When we look at the situation of young people economically;

  • 30.1% of them have a monthly income below 600 TL.
  • 32.5% of them are between 601-1500 TL.
  • 21.5% of them are between 1,500-2,400 TL.
  • 15.9% have 2,400 TL and above.

When you look at these figures, you see that the income of the young population is well below their living limits. When we consider the young audience, which consists of 30.1%, they have an income of 20 TL per day. What can be done for 20 TL? We say that dreaming always keeps a person vigorous, but how can this young person dream?

In the research, when young people were asked what is their main activity;

  • 73.5% answer TRANSPORTATION.

Young people wander around because they have no money in their pockets. Think about it, what else would someone who has 20 TL per day to spend do? Let’s put aside house rent, water money and minibus money. If you only eat from that money, what’s left? Cash it out and spend it too!

As I mentioned at the beginning of my article, we have been hearing the word YOUTH a lot lately. We started to hear about new reforms aimed at YOUNG masses. Of course, these are beautiful too. I definitely don’t want to be pessimistic about the future. I hope that from now on there will be very good developments for YOUNG audiences. It should be… I say it again and again to those who are responsible for it. Give importance and value to young people, who are the future of this country, in every aspect.

Let’s not forget that there are millions of young people living in our country. Whether you accept it or not, the existence of our country will be determined by the moves made by young people. The stronger the young people of this country are, the stronger our beautiful country, which deserves the best of everything, will be. Don’t forget!

Regardless of his views, despite the polarization in society, he does not retreat into his corner and says, “Will I SAVE THIS COUNTRY?” I hereby send my greetings to my young friends who do not bother with excuses and work, run, produce and help day and night for their country.
